TRUMPET PLAYER | SOUND ENGINEER | TEACHER
This is where it all began
I started playing the trumpet when I was 8 years old. When I was 14 years old I met André Heuvelman (trumpet player of the Rotterdam Philharmonic) who invited me to audition at the Rotterdam conservatory (Codarts) where I started my professional education in the prepetorial class.
In 2008 I was accepted at the Bachelor program for jazz trumpet and with a half year or Erasmus exchange in Graz I graduated in Rotterdam in 2012
In the mean time while I was studying I developed my professional career as an trumpet player. I soon discovered that my passion for music was wider then only jazz or classical music and started playing every genre that wanted a trumpet player. Under my pseudonym Q on trumpet I begun playing with DJ’s, and that turned out to be a succes for me. I’ve played with DJ’s all around the world for example: Bakermat, Sam Feldt, Erick E, Roog, Gregor Salto, Hed Kandi (Live) and Lucien Foort.
Next to my professional career I kept developing my trumpet skills with some great educators amongst them: Eric Vloeimans, Jim Rotondi, Marvin Stamm, Simon Rigter, Ad van Zon, Wim Both, Jarmo Hoogendijk and Willem van der Vliet (whom I still visit quite often). They have been a huge influence to who I am today.
Apart from playing with DJ’s I did numerous pop and jazz studio and live gigs. The combination between all these styles of music kept my mind open and therefore resulting in some great collaborations. I’ve had the honor to share the stage with amongst others: Blaudzun, Ellen ten Damme, Maria Schneider, Izaline Callister, Miss Moly and Me and trumpet legend Ack van Rooyen.
After my conservatorium education there was always one thing I would wanted to do besides playing my trumpet: I wanted to know more about the technical side of music. Therefore I studied Sound engineering at SAE in Rotterdam were I completed my study cum laude in 2013. After that I also came more and more involved in mixing live and in the studio with clients from Eric Vloeimans to singer/songwriter Thyrza van Dieijen. You can read here more about my career as a sound engineer.
As the great Phil Collins once said: “In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.” To help develop others and therefore also myself I’ve been teaching private trumpet students sinds I was 16 years. In 2012 I created the website trompetlesrotterdam and since then my practice has been flourishing. Next to teaching my private students in 2013 I also begun teaching music theory lessons at SAE Rotterdam, Amsterdam.
Currently I’m enjoying my live as a trumpet player | sound engineer | teacher.
